The regulations of the United States require that gin must be made by distillation or re distillation, and at least 80 degrees. The regulations of the European Union specify the importance of gin in gin. The EU regulations first define gin as “a gin flavored alcoholic beverage” and require that the flavoring agent used in gin production “is mainly gin”
In terms of etymology, gin can also be traced back to juniper: it is the shortening and rewriting of Geneva, and Geneva is “the rewriting of the abandoned Dutch word genever, which literally means juniper. It can be traced from medieval Dutch to ancient French geneivre and finally to Latin Juniperus”.
